2002 Floral Flag
Between
the fields where the flag is planted, there are 9+ miles of
flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers
are grown by seed companies. It's a beautiful place, close

Concert, "Aloha From Hawaii"
More
than two dozen musical performers participated in the "Aloha
From Hawaii" benefit concert. Over 2,300 tickets were
sold and all the proceeds went to the families of the firefighters
and police officers who died in the Sept. 11 tragedy.

| 60-Foot
Paper Lei Sent to New York
A
60-foot-long paper lei was sent to the New York fire Department's
Rescue One by the elementary students at Hawaii Baptist Academy.
The lei was made from 400 different paper flowers and written
notes by the students. Third Grader, Tammy Isobe. wrote, "Dear
God, keep the rescuers safe. Please help them find more people
that are alive. Help heal people that are injured. Amen."

donate more that 700,000 dollars to the American Red Cross
In just two weeks Hawaii donated over
700,000 to the American Red Cross’s relief efforts.
While this is appreciated, local officials urged the citizen’s
of Hawaii to donate locally as well.

Six Hundred Students from Jefferson Elementary
School decorated their school's fence with drawings that represent
a message of world peace. These drawings were hung on Sept 21,
2001. |

If you are experiencing stress over the
recent tragic events and would like some stress relief, then
call the Peace and Well-Being Collective at 262-2375. They are
offering free services to the Hawaii community. Services include:
counseling, chiropractor, massage therapist, mediator, psychologist,
aroma therapist, pilates instructor, yoga, acupuncture, and
hypnotherapy. These services are sponsored by a loose coalition
of Kailua and will be available three evenings in October and
November. |

of Sympathy
Mayor
Jeremy Harris joined Eight Oahu religious leaders on October
2nd to sign a proclamation of sympathy, solidarity and aloha
for New York City, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania officials.

Palace Raises the U.S. Flag
The
flag of the United States was flying over Iolani Palace on
Sept 28 for the first time since 1969. The flag will fly for
30 days and be taken down on Oct 28. |

graduate of Molakai helps is rescue attempt
Alan
Naeole, a Los Angelas fire man, described the support of New
York citizens to be outstanding. It encouraged him to keep
working and looking amidst the rubble for survivors. Naeole
said, “We want to look for life. We want to get some
people out. When you don’t, it’s kind of disappointing.
Emotionally, it was a roller-coaster.”

Medical Assistance Team to be sent from Hawaii
A
medical team of 44 people will head to New York in November
to provide assistance to the East Coast rescue workers. This
team is a branch of the National Disaster Medical System,
a federal program under the Dept. of Health and Human Services.

contributes to Ebay’s 100 million fund raiser
Ebay
is holding an “Auction for America” program where
each state’s governor will list merchandise for sale.
Hawaii’s contribution will be a “Come to Hawaii:
Regevenate the Spirit” package. This package includes
a first class ticket for a family of four from any U.S. city
and a five day stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The highest
bidder will also be greeted by Gov. Ben Cayetano and be given
a color pictorial collectors book on Hawaii signed by Cayetano.

Line School Yard Fence
A patriotic display of red, white and blue streamers lined
Hanalani's school yard fence. These streamers, blowing in
the trade winds, were a tribute to the family and victims
of the Sept. 11 attack.

Cross's Hawaiian Resident Spreads Aloha in New York
Glenn
Lockwood, a Hawaii Kai resident, was one of the 3,000 Red
Cross volunteers to assist in the September 11th attack. Lockwood
explained the intensity to be like nothing he had ever seen.
He said it was busy at 3 in the morning as it was at 3 in
the afternoon and when you were done with one shift, you would
take up anotherÑdesperately looking for every last
person within the rubble of the fallen Trade center. |
